The New York Post feels that with the Great Depression around the corner, they don’t want to see the Crawleys suffer beyond next season. So they’ve have come up with some suggested exits for the series’ major characters.

Knowing when to leave a party is a social skill almost as appreciated as knowing when to arrive. The same principle applies to TV shows. When a show debuts at the right time, and is embraced by the public, there’s nothing like it. You only have to look at what’s happening with Fox’s “Empire” to see what I mean. People want good stories and characters they can relate to or fantasize about or simply fall in love with.
Audiences felt that way about “Downton Abbey” when it premiered in 2010. The Emmy and Golden Globe winner still stands as the most watched drama in PBS history. Like “Empire,” it earned record ratings — especially for PBS — and gave audiences something they didn’t know they were missing: stories of courtly romance, expressions of sophisticated wit and the wonderful fantasy of what it would be like to live like an aristocrat and get waited on hand and foot.
