Lynn Wyatt hosts a special “Downton Abbey” tea party

Texas royalty in her own right, longtime Houston Public Media advocate Lynn Wyatt chaired an exclusive afternoon tea with the Countess of Highclere Castle (better known as Downton Abbey) at the St. Regis on Friday.

Fans of Masterpiece Classic’s riveting period drama know the fictional Yorkshire country estate as the backdrop for the aristocratic Crawley family and their servants. However, the stately house is actually the real-life home of Lady Fiona Carnarvon and her husband, George Herbert, 8th Earl of Carnarvon.

VIPs were able to pose for pictures with the Countess during a prosecco-fueled meet-and-greet. Meanwhile, nearly 200 arriving guests loaded up on Imperial Earl Grey black leaves tea from Sri Lanka and an assortment of sweets and sandwiches just outside of the uptown hotel’s grand ballroom. The delectable spread included traditional offerings of cucumber-watercress, chicken salad, smoked salmon, miniature scones with Devonshire cream and macaroons, all stacked on exquisite silver platters and framed by bouquets of pastel roses.
