Lady Cora Makes A Comeback… Sort Of

Seems as though Cora is making a comeback. Too bad for Edith, Mary and Rose… maybe next time!

Lady Cora makes a comeback: Classic names once considered outdated and old see a rise in popularity thanks to hit TV shows like Downton Abbey and The Office

  • Names from Victorian times and the Roaring ’20s are fashionable once again
  • Fads in baby naming come and go but old-fashioned names stand the test of time

When it comes to baby names, what’s old is new again according to newly-released research from parenting website Nameberry.

Names that were familiar and traditional a century ago appear to be making a comeback.

Classic, old-fashioned names such as Alice and Esther are becoming fashionable once again and what’s more, they have proven their ability to stand up to the test of time.

Each year, the Social Security Administration rounds up the top baby names taken from birth certificates in America.

The official U.S. roster of names has now pulled out classic names that are also among the fastest rising and making a comeback.

Parents can spend months agonizing over what to call their newborn, but traditional names like Esther, Hazel, June and Olive are classics that more and more parents are choosing.

Despite the resurgence of these classic names, the reasons for the sudden return are often unclear. Alice, for example, has always been popular thanks to Alice In Wonderland, however many other names, like Cora or Cecilia, will make a comeback because they feature in a hit TV series or popular film.
