Windsor residents can be excused if they felt they woke up in 1915 instead of 2015 on Saturday morning.

Hundreds of cyclists were invited to dust off their finest tweed jackets, caps, and knickerbockers for the sixth Tweed Ride through the city.

Harking back to a time when Hiram Walker distilled his whisky and ragtime spilled out of local bars, the event is a leisurely ride through some of Windsor’s city streets.

“It’s a fun way of showing cycling isn’t only about sport or serious cyclists,” said Stephen Hargreaves, the co-founder of the event.

“It started in London, England in 2009. We borrowed the idea and tweaked it a little bit,” he said. “It’s just a bunch of people having fun.”

The route planned for riders to start on Wyandotte Street East in Walkerville, and then head west along the Detroit River, through Jackson Park and back.
